Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The official book behind the Academy Award-winning film The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley It is only a slight exaggeration to say that the British mathematician Alan Turing (1912-1954) saved the Allies from the Nazis, invented the computer and artificial intelligence, and anticipated gay liberation by decades--all before his suicide at age forty-one. This New York Times–bestselling biography of the founder of computer science, with a new preface by the author that addresses Turing's royal pardon in 2013, is the definitive account of an extraordinary mind and life. Capturing both the inner and outer drama of Turing’s life, Andrew Hodges tells how Turing’s revolutionary idea of 1936--the concept of a universal machine--laid the foundation for the modern computer and how Turing brought the idea to practical realization in 1945 with his electronic design. The book also tells how this work was directly related to Turing’s leading role in breaking the German Enigma ciphers during World War II, a scientific triumph that was critical to Allied victory in the Atlantic. At the same time, this is the tragic account of a man who, despite his wartime service, was eventually arrested, stripped of his security clearance, and forced to undergo a humiliating treatment program--all for trying to live honestly in a society that defined homosexuality as a crime. The inspiration for a major motion picture starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, Alan Turing: The Enigma is a gripping story of mathematics, computers, cryptography, and homosexual persecution.

Book Synopsis: The concept of “chaos”, and chaos theory, though it is a field of study specifically in the field of mathematics with applications in physics, engineering, economics, management, and education, has also recently taken root in the social sciences. As a method of analyzing the way in which the digital age has connected society more than ever, chaos and complexity theory serves as a tactic to tie world events and cope with the information overload that is associated with heightened social connectivity. The Handbook of Research on Chaos and Complexity Theory in the Social Sciences explores the theories of chaos and complexity as applied to a variety of disciplines including political science, organizational and management science, economics, and education. Presenting diverse research-based perspectives on mathematical patterns in the world system, this publication is an essential reference source for scholars, researchers, mathematicians, social theorists, and graduate-level students in a variety of disciplines.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: German–Turkish relations, which have a long history and generally unrecognized depth, have rarely been examined as mutually formative processes. Isolated instances of influence have been examined in detail, but the historical and still ongoing processes of mutual interaction have rarely been seriously considered. The ruling assumption has been that Germany may have an impact on Turkey, but not the other way around. Religion, Identity and Politics examines this mutual interaction, specifically with regard to religious identities and institutions. It opposes the commonly held assumption that Europe is the abode of secularism and enlightenment, while the lands of Islam are the realm of backwardness and fundamentalism. Both historically and contemporarily, Germany has treated religion as a core aspect of communal and civilizational identity and framed its institutions accordingly; the book explores how there has been, and continues to be, a mutual exchange in this regard between Germany and both the Ottoman Empire and modern Turkey. The authors show that the definition of identity and regulation of communities have been explicitly based on religion until the early and since the late twentieth century; the period in between– the age of secular nationalism– which has always been treated as the norm, now appears more clearly as an exception. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of sociology, politics, history and religion.

Book Synopsis: Assassins.Secret agents.A revolutionary technology.Put them together, and you have no choice but to Run Like Hell. It's the 21st century, and things are pretty much the same as they are now. People fall in love, plan a wedding, nearly get assassinated at the ceremony - wait, what? Here's what JM Leitch, author of The Zul Enigma, had to say: "Run Like Hell doesn't fall into the weighty adventure scifi type of novel I usually choose - it is also a light hearted futuristic romance - but having said that it's beefed up with good science and is a well constructed and well written book. The main characters are charming and original and dazzle the reader with their quick and witty repartee.Set 100 years in the future, the book opens with the wedding of two female friends, Kendra (Ken) Foster-Briggs exotic actress and film producer, Aiyana Cassidy (Cass) half Irish/half Native American graduate from MIT with a Doctorate in Optical Engineering, and Derek James, a man of independent means. The only problem is instead of the Reverend marrying them he pulls a gun on them, forcing them to Run Like Hell.Surviving a second attack the two ladies leave Derek behind and after working out Cass is the target, Ken arranges new identities and a safe place for them both to lay low until they can sort out the mess they find themselves in.I won't give away any more of the plot but I will say this is a fast paced page-turner and worthy of the 5 stars I have given it.
