Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: "Everything comics have the potential to achieve. It still leaves me in awe." — Black Gate Magazine. Millions of years in the future, a new world emerges — a world made of living flesh, surrounded by acidic seas. Rotten at the edges, awash in gangrene swamps, and bristling with mountains of bone, the planet's simmering core houses the stark city of Bedlam, where an all-male race suppresses every manifestation of femininity. In this magnificently illustrated dreamscape of brutality and eroticism, a mysterious female presence called Rumour arises to challenge super-commando Brother Bones in a deadly war between the sexes. World Without End offers a compelling blend of science-fiction allegory and fantasy adventure. Author Jamie Delano's unique vision of a strange, immersive world is perfectly complemented by John Higgins's stunning illustrations. The epic tale was originally published by DC Comics as a six-part series. This edition is its first single-volume publication. Suggested for mature readers.

Download or read book World Without End written by James H. Moorhead and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 1999-10-22 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: "In this compelling intellectual and social history, Moorhead argues that for mainline Protestants in the late 19th century, time became endless, human-directed and without urgency.... Moorhead offers some brilliant observations about the legacy of postmillennialism and the human need for a definitive eschaton." —Publishers Weekly In the 19th century American Protestants firmly believed that when progress had run its course, there would be a Second Coming of Christ, the world would come to a supernatural End, and the predictions in the Apocalypse would come to pass. During the years covered in James Moorhead’s study, however, moderate and liberal mainstream Protestants transformed this postmillennialism into a hope that this world would be the scene for limitless spiritual improvement and temporal progress. The sense of an End vanished with the arrival of the new millennium.

Summary Book Review Worlds without End by Mary-Jane Rubenstein:
Download or read book Worlds without End written by Mary-Jane Rubenstein and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: A religion professor elucidates the theory of the multiverse, its history, and its reception in science, philosophy, religion, and literature. Multiverse cosmologies imagine our universe as just one of a vast number of others. Beginning with ancient Atomist and Stoic philosophies, Mary-Jane Rubenstein links contemporary models of the multiverse to their forerunners and explores the reasons for their recent appearance. One concerns the so-called fine-tuning of the universe: nature's constants are so delicately calibrated that it seems they have been set just right to allow life to emerge. For some thinkers, these "fine-tunings" are evidence of the existence of God; for others, however, and for most physicists, "God" is an insufficient scientific explanation. Hence the multiverse’s allure: if all possible worlds exist somewhere, then like monkeys hammering out Shakespeare, one universe is bound to be suitable for life. Of course, this hypothesis replaces God with an equally baffling article of faith: the existence of universes beyond, before, or after our own, eternally generated yet forever inaccessible to observation or experiment. In their very efforts to sidestep metaphysics, theoretical physicists propose multiverse scenarios that collide with it and even produce counter-theological narratives. Far from invalidating multiverse hypotheses, Rubenstein argues, this interdisciplinary collision actually secures their scientific viability. We may therefore be witnessing a radical reconfiguration of physics, philosophy, and religion in the modern turn to the multiverse. “Rubenstein’s witty, thought-provoking history of philosophy and physics leaves one in awe of just how close Thomas Aquinas and American physicist Steven Weinberg are in spirit as they seek ultimate answers.”—Publishers Weekly “A fun, mind-stretching read, clear and enlightening.”—San Francisco Book Review

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: In this inspiring collection of fifty-one sermons on Romans, Fleming Rutledge presents afresh the radical gospel of Paul. Countering the widespread suspicion that Paul somehow complicated Jesus' simple teachings, Rutledge shows how Paul actually makes explicit what is implicit in the Gospel narratives and reveals "the full dimensions of God's project to reclaim the cosmos and everything in it for himself." With her stirring words and joyful delving into Romans passages, Rutledge leads readers to refocus their eyes and ears on Paul's valuable teachings. She unpacks major ideas and motifs in the epistle, including the cross and resurrection of Christ as the first event of the age to come, faith as the human response ignited by the fire of the Word and the Holy Spirit, and God's work of salvation as all-encompassing and incomparable. Her Not Ashamed of the Gospel will be a help to preachers and an encouragement to listeners.

Book Synopsis: This book offers a rational and philosophical approach to environmental interpretation, the educational purpose of which is particularly relevant in an age when specialization tends to distance most people from direct experience of the way the environment works. In reviewing the practice of interpretation, the author emphasises that effective work in this field must be finely tuned. The interpreter must constantly bear in mind the real value and significance of the features interpreted and the needs of the visitors to whom interpretation is addressed.
