Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: Get the first four novels in the Goddess with a Blade series by New York Times bestselling author Lauren Dane. Now available in one box set. GODDESS WITH A BLADE Meet Rowan Summerwaite. Vessel to the Celtic goddess Brigid and raised by the leader of the Vampire Nation, she’s a supercharged Hunter with the power to slay any Vampire who violates the age-old treaty. A string of murders has her at odds with Las Vegas’s new Scion, the arrogant and powerful Clive Stewart. The killings have the mark of Vampire all over them, and Rowan warns Clive to keep his people in line—or she’ll mete out her own brand of justice. Though her dealings with Clive are adversarial, Rowan is intensely aware of her attraction to him. But she can’t let it distract her from her duty—to find and battle the killer before more women die. BLADE TO THE KEEP Rowan Summerwaite is the only person who can renegotiate the fragile Treaty between the Vampire Nation and the Hunter Corporation, the last line of defense for humanity. A meeting of the Joint Tribunal sends Rowan to the last place she wants to be—The First’s Keep. Raised at the knee of The First, the oldest Vampire and leader of the Vampire Nation, Rowan must navigate Vampires and Hunters alike. And she’s got to do it while managing a politically awkward but undeniably deepened romance with Scion Clive Stewart… BLADE ON THE HUNT Broken but not defeated by an ancient Vampire, a vengeance-fueled Rowan leads a team of some of the most terrifying beings on earth with one goal in mind. Eliminate the Vampire who attacked her. But as the team is hit with wave after wave of attacks, the tensions between Clive Stewart and a rival Vampire ramp up, with Rowan the woman in the middle. She’s not used to being claimed, and Clive is everything she shouldn’t want in a man, but she’s past denying she’s in love. In contrast to the uneven footing falling in love has given her, Rowan is utterly certain she’ll locate her quarry. Strong, powerful and connected to the Goddess, she burns with the light of her mission. There’s a war brewing, and Rowan will fight it to the death. It’s what she was born to do. AT BLADE’S EDGE Though she’d hoped the deadly events in Venice would end the threat to the Treaty she’s sworn to protect, Rowan found evidence of a grander conspiracy—to destroy the fragile peace that holds humans, Vampires and those with magic back from war. People try to kill Rowan all the time, but when those she cares for are at risk—including her new husband, Scion Clive Stewart—she gets angry. The organization that once gave her a purpose has betrayed her. Now, instead of on a much-anticipated honeymoon, Rowan is in London, gathering allies and evidence. Whatever she needs to drive out the rot within Hunter Corp. and expose whoever is at the top. Rowan is a predator and this threat is prey. She’ll burn it down and salt the earth afterward. On her terms.

Book Synopsis: “Vampires. Why do we care? In these pages you will find what is very simply, the most literate, imaginative, and just plain fascinating answer to that question ever written.” ?Whitley Strieber In a culture that does not do death particularly well, we are obsessed with mortality. Margot Adler writes, “Vampires let us play with death and the issue of mortality. They let us ponder what it would mean to be truly long lived. Would the long view allow us to see the world differently, imagine social structures differently? Would it increase or decrease our reverence for the planet? Vampires allow us to ask questions we usually bury.” As Adler, a longtime NPR correspondent and question asker, sat vigil at her dying husband’s bedside, she found herself newly drawn to vampire novels and their explorations of mortality. Over the next four years—by now she has read more than 270 vampire novels, from teen to adult, from gothic to modern, from detective to comic—she began to see just how each era creates the vampires it needs. Dracula, an Eastern European monster, was the perfect vehicle for 19th-century England’s fear of outsiders and of disease seeping in through its large ports. In 1960s America, Dark Shadows gave us the morally conflicted vampire struggling against his own predatory nature, who still enthralls us today. Think Spike and Angel, Stefan and Damon, Bill and Eric, the Cullens. Vampires Are Us explores the issues of power, politics, morality, identity, and even the fate of the planet that show up in vampire novels today. Perhaps, Adler suggests, our blood is oil, perhaps our prey is the planet. Perhaps vampires are us.

Download or read book Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Omnibus Volume 1 written by Joss Whedon and published by Dark Horse Comics. This book was released on 2017-09-26 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: Series creator Joss Whedon brought Buffy the Vampire Slayer back to life with this comics-only follow-up to Season 7 of the television show. Aptly named Season 8, these comics are the official sequel to Buffy and continue where the live-action series left off with the Slayer, her friends, and their ongoing challenge to fight the forces of darkness. After the destruction of the Hellmouth, the Slayers--newly legion--have gotten organized, but it's not long before new and old enemies begin popping up. Buffy, Xander, Willow, and a very different Dawn are introduced to the season's big bad, Twilight, and begin to understand the incredible reach of this mysterious threat. Meanwhile, rebel Slayer Faith teams up with Giles to handle a menace on the other side of the Atlantic. It's a dirty job, and Faith is just the girl to do it! Then, as Twilight's ominous influence continues to expand Buffy and her Slayers travel to Tokyo to face a new kind of vampire with powers they've only witnessed in Dracula . . . And, when trouble with Buffy's scythe comes to light, Willow and Buffy head to New York to investigate the secrets behind the ancient weapon; ever full of the unexpected, Buffy is transported to a dystopian future where her first chance meeting is with Fray, future Slayer! This oversized omnibus edition is one of two volumes that will contain the entirety of Season 8. It includes the first four arcs of the series along with one-shots and short stories written by Joss Whedon, Brian K. Vaughan, Drew Goddard, and Jeph Loeb, with art by the acclaimed Georges Jeanty, as well as Karl Moline, Paul Lee, Cliff Richards, and more. “Joss Whedon, the man, the myth, the legend, writes the comic with the same genius as he did the show. The art, penciled by Georges Jeanty, is as faboo as the writing.”—Janet Evanovich, New York Times best-selling author of Hard Eight “Buffy the comic might be every bit as good as Buffy the TV show.”—Entertainment Weekly (featured as one of the Best Comics of 2007) “Vaughan is a fantastic writer that conveys emotion and character to a degree of perfection.”—Wired “Drew Goddard is a rare breed: a genre writer who crafts truly inspired characters and lyrical, emotional scenes.”—J. J. Abrams (Alias, Lost, Cloverfield) “Buffy Season 8 is run like the television series from which it came . . . a classic evolving specimen for this era of ever shifting media platforms.”—Los Angeles Times “The whole gang returns, kicking ass and splitting infinitives in Whedon’s inimitable dialogue.”—Wired “Series creator Whedon effectively sucks devotees back into his Hellmouth.”—Entertainment Weekly

Book Synopsis: Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga has maintained a tight grip on the contemporary cultural imagination. This timely and critical work examines how the Twilight series offers addictively appealing messages about love, romance, sex, beauty and body image, and how these charged themes interact with cultural issues regarding race, class, gender and sexuality. Through a careful analysis of the texts, the fandom and the current socio-historical climate, this work argues that the success of the Twilight series stems chiefly from Meyer’s negotiation of cultural mores.

Book Synopsis: "Kim Newman's Anno Dracula is back in print, and we must celebrate. It was the first mash-up of literature, history and vampires, and now, in a world in which vampires are everywhere, it's still the best, and its bite is just as sharp. Compulsory reading, commentary, and mindgame: glorious." - Neil Gaiman "Politics, horror, and romance are woven together in this brilliantly imagined and realized novel. Newman's prose is a delight, his attention to detail is spellbinding." - Time Out “Stephen King assumes we hate vampires; Anne Rice makes it safe to love them, because they hate themselves. Kim Newman suspects that most of us live with them… Anno Dracula is the definitive account of that post-modern species, the self-obsessed undead.” - New York Times “Anno Dracula will leave you breathless... one of the most creative novels of the year.” - Seattle Times “Powerful... compelling entertainment... a fiendishly clever banquet of dark treats.” - San Francisco Chronicle 'A ripping yarn, an adventure romp of the best blood, and a satisfying… read' - Washington Post Book World "The most comprehensive, brilliant, dazzlingly audacious vampire novel to date. 'Ultimate' seems an apt description... Anno Dracula is at once playful, horrific, intelligent, and revelatory." - Locus "A marvelous marriage of political satire, melodramatic intrigue, gothic horror, and alternative history. Not to be missed." - The Independent "Once you start reading this Victorian-era thriller, you will not be satiated until you reach the end." - Ain't It Cool "Anno Dracula is the smart, hip Year Zero of the vampire genre's ongoing revolution." - Paul McAuley "Kim Newman brings Dracula back home in the granddaddy of all vampire adventures. Anno Dracula couldn't be more fun if Bram Stoker had scripted it for Hammer. It's a beautifully constructed Gothic epic that knocks almost every other vampire novel out for the count." - Christopher Fowler "The most interesting take on the Dracula story... to date. Recommending this one to all those that love Dracula and historical fiction!" - RexRobotReviews -- It is 1888 and Queen Victoria has remarried, taking as her new consort Vlad Tepes, the Wallachian Prince infamously known as Count Dracula. Peppered with familiar characters from Victorian history and fiction, the novel follows vampire Geneviève Dieudonné and Charles Beauregard of the Diogenes Club as they strive to solve the mystery of the Ripper murders. Anno Dracula is a rich and panoramic tale, combining horror, politics, mystery and romance to create a unique and compelling alternate history. Acclaimed novelist Kim Newman explores the darkest depths of a reinvented Victorian London. This brand-new edition of the bestselling novel contains unique bonus material, including a new afterword from Kim Newman, annotations, articles and alternate endings to the original novel.

Download or read book The Irish Vampire written by Sharon M. Gallagher and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2017-04-11 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: The origins of the vampire can be traced through oral traditions, ancient texts and archaeological discoveries, its nature varying from one culture to the next up until the 20th century. Three 19th century Irish writers—Charles Robert Maturin, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and Bram Stoker—used the obscure vampire of folklore in their fiction and developed a universally recognizable figure, culminating in Stoker’s Dracula and the vampire of today’s popular culture. Maturin, Le Fanu and Stoker did not set out to transform the vampire of regional folk tales into a global phenomenon. Their personal lives, national concerns and extensive reading were reflected in their writing, striking a chord with readers and recasting the vampire as distinctly Irish. This study traces the genealogy of the modern literary vampire from European mythology through the Irish literature of the 1800s.
