Summary Book Review Gone to Suicide by Ann Clark:
Download or read book Gone to Suicide written by Ann Clark and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2020-02-07 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: Suicide is soul-crushing for the survivors left behind. This book gives an inside look at the heartbreak and devastation that a Colorado mother experienced after her seventeen-year old son took his own life. By being transparent about her son Brant’s tragic death, author Ann Clark hopes to help reduce the silence, shame, and secrecy that surround suicide. Included in this book are examples of Clark’s efforts to warn others about the role that marijuana played in her son’s death. Brant had a psychotic break immediately after heavy use of THC-marijuana, and this led to his suicide. All the most important, yet widely under-reported scientific research about marijuana is documented in this book. There is a national crisis when it comes to mental health care, and the suicide rate in the US continues to increase at an alarming rate. Gone to Suicide offers many insights for both suicide prevention and for survivor recovery. Through the author’s relentless pursuit to understand her son’s death, this book explores the transformative power in extreme loss, and reveals how pain and sorrow can actually lead us to our purpose for being alive.

Download or read book Religion, Death, and Dying written by Lucy Bregman and published by ABC-CLIO. This book was released on 2010 with total page 813 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: What do various spiritual and ethical belief systems have to say about modern medicine's approach to the end of life? Do all major religions characterize the afterlife in similar ways? How do funeral rites and rituals vary across different faiths? Now there is one resource that gathers leading scholars to address these questions and more about the many religious, ethical, and spiritual aspects of death, dying, and bereavement in America. ''Religion, Death, and Dying compares and contrasts the ways different faiths and ethical schools contemplate the end of life. The work is organized into three thematic volumes: first, an examination of the contemporary medicalized death from the perspective of different religious traditions and the professions involved; second, an exploration of complex, often controversial issues, including the death of children, AIDS, capital punishment, and war; and finally, a survey of the funeral and bereavement rituals that have evolved under various religions."

Summary Book Review Life Span Perspectives of Suicide by A.A. Leenaars:
Download or read book Life Span Perspectives of Suicide written by A.A. Leenaars and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-01-31 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: In recent years, a great deal of interest has been focused on suicide in the elderly and in the young. However, in line with modem trends in psychology, sociology, psychiatry, anthropology, and other human health fields, interest has now shifted to suicide across the life span, from childhood through adulthood to old age. This book has been conceptualized within this developing tradition. There are various ways in which life's timelines can be conceptualized. Developmental theory, we believe, should be open-ended. This has widened-and will continue to widen-our understanding of many complicated human acts including suicide. Though suicide is in many ways the same across the entire life span, understanding the time-lines in the suicidal process is imperative. To do so, however, is, we believe, challenging. In this volume, we attempt to engage in the process of understanding suicide from a developmental perspective. To do this, we have been fortunate to obtain the cooperation of a highly competent group of contributors. One interesting footnote to our list of authorities is that they represent suicidologists from across the life span-a few who are at the beginning of their careers, a large number in their middle years, and a few who are in the Indian summer of their professional lives.
