Book Synopsis: 1. 0 INTRODUCTION This book provides an encompassing analysis of Subject Clitics (SCLs) by giving a detailed description of these elements in two varieties of Piedmontese, a Northern Italian Dialect: Astigiano and Turinese spoken in the areas of Asti and Turin respectively. It accounts for the structural position and function of these elements inside the computational system and for their morphological and distributional properties. It also provides an empirical and theoretical comparison between Piedmontese SCLs and SCLs in other Northern Italian Dialects (NIDs). of SCLs types in the NIDs have been regarded as Since the 1980s, the majority elements of agreement, in that they contribute to the realisation of subject verb agreement by expressing features of the subject similar, in a way, to verbal inflection. Nonetheless, SCLs are not to be assimilated to verbal affixes as they exhibit different properties. Most distinctively, they can be separated from the verb by other clitic elements and, in the case of the varieties considered here, SCLs are optional in all contexts and may be omitted in coordination. A more refined identification of SCLs separates SCLs which encode agreement features from those which do not and are related to pragmatic factors, as originally observed by Beninca (1994) with respect to the clitic a in Paduano The different morphological and syntactic properties that characterise SCLs across the NIDs have justified numerous accounts which regard them as head of their own projection.

This book was released on 2015-12-02 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: The theme of the conference this year was Critical CALL, drawing inspiration from the work carried out in the broader field of Critical Applied Linguistics. The term ‘critical’ has many possible interpretations, and as Pennycook (2001) outlines, has many concerns. It was from these that we decided on the conference theme, in particular the notion that we should question the assumptions that lie at the basis of our praxis, ideas that have become ‘naturalized’ and are not called into question. Over 200 presentations were delivered in 68 different sessions, both in English and Italian, on topics related specifically to the theme and also more general CALL topics. 94 of these were submitted as extended papers and appear in this volume of proceedings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: Morphology, and in particular word formation, has always played an important role in Romance linguistics since it was introduced in Diez's comparative Romance grammar. Recent years have witnessed a surge of interest in inflectional morphology, and current research shows a strong interest in paradigmatic analyses. This volume brings together research exploring different areas of morphology from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. On an empirical basis, the theoretical assumption of the 'Autonomy of Morphology' is discussed critically. 'Data-driven' approaches carefully examine concrete morphological phenomena in Romance languages and dialects. Topics include syncretism and allomorphy in verbs, pronouns, and articles as well as the use of specific derivational suffixes in word formation. Together, the articles in this volume provide insights into issues currently debated in Romance morphology, appealing to scholars of morphology, Romance linguistics, and advanced students alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: Transmedia in Asia and the Pacific is a timely exploration of a global media phenomena that offers a unique perspective on the production, consumption and use of transmedia storytelling in the Asia Pacific region. Through close analysis of case studies from Australia, Cambodia, China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and West Papua, the chapters in this book provide insight into the cultural and transcultural contexts against which transmedia storytelling takes place in the region. From community theatre and social media narratives in China; to transcultural consumption of Japanese texts in French, Spanish and English speaking countries; to the use of transmedia for education in Japan and China, examples highlight the diverse ways in which a global and commericalised media phenomenon is appropriated and recontextualised to local circumstances. This volume questions the centre/periphery dichotomy of understanding global media through perspectives that seek to enrich understanding and definitions of transmedia. It is a valuable resource for scholars and students wishing to expand their engagement with the theory and practice of transmedia storytelling. Chapters “Chapter 1-Introduction to Transmedia in Asia and the Pacific, Chapter 13 -Teaching Transmedia in China: Complexity, Critical Thinking, and Digital Natives and Chapter 14-Conclusions” are available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Download or read book Globalisation and Enlargement of the European Union written by Andreas Bieler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis: On January 1 1995, Austria and Sweden joined the European Union (EU). This book examines why these two countries joined at such a moment and studies their accession against the structural background of globalization. In this cutting-edge analysis, Andreas Bieler argues that conventional neo-functionalist and intergovernmentalist theories fail to explain such structural change as they take existing power structures as given. Therefore, he develops a neo-Gramscian perspective as an alternative approach to European integration.
